AI at work · Field guide 023

What your AI needs to know about your business

EVO Editorial · · 2 min read
Better context. Better questions.

“How should I grow my business?” leaves an AI system to guess what you sell, what matters now and what you can realistically do. A short, current business brief gives the analysis firmer boundaries.

The purpose is not to provide every document you own. It is to supply the minimum relevant context for the question while respecting your organization's data rules.

Describe the situation

Include the business model, intended customer, current objective, reporting period and major constraints. Explain the terms you use internally. “Active customer” can mean different things in different companies.

Identify what is known, estimated and missing. Date the brief and name who maintains it. Outdated information can be more misleading than an explicit gap because it appears settled.

Specify the decision

A useful request names the choice, the evidence available and the desired output. For illustration: “Compare two ways to reduce onboarding delays using the facts below. List trade-offs, missing information and a small test for each. Do not invent staffing capacity or customer demand.”

Provide the constraints that would make an otherwise sensible suggestion unusable: available time, budget boundaries, existing commitments or required approvals.

Keep authority with the right people

Explain whether you want a summary, options or a draft plan. Do not confuse generating an option with permission to carry it out.

Use approved tools and minimize sensitive information. Check the provider's applicable settings and terms rather than assuming every AI product handles data the same way.
